Leek Coach Appeal

With the Churnet Valley Railway's extension into Leek nearing ever closer, it has been acknowledged that the current fleet of passenger carrying vehicles will be insufficient for the expected level of services. To ensure the railway is in good shape for the planned expansion it is desired that the railway has a minimum of two six-coach rakes available for passenger services, with an additional five coach dining set capable of serving 120 diners.

To play it's part in enhancing the visitor experience, by ensuring there are enough seats for potential visitors during their visit, the NSRC has proposed to assist with the purchase and transport of suitable vehicles to Staffordshire.

As of November 2021 the NSRC had taken delivery of Second Open (SO) M4366, Tourist Second Opens (TSO) E3809 and S4046, and Corridor Compartment (CK) 15663 at a total cost for purchase and transport of a little over £19,000. An appeal to cover the anticipated expenditure was launched in March 2020, and to date the costs for the four vehicles above had been covered with the addition of Gift Aid.

In October 2021 the NSRC asked for donations equalling a further £7500, as the opportunity had arisen to acquire two further Mk1s that would help complete the plan for three rakes as outlined.
